Description:
YMCA Day Camp Norwich has been inviting campers to share the summer with since 1896. Our Norwich program takes place on a beautiful facility encompassing 137 acres of lake, woods, and fields in the foothills of the Berkshires. Groups of 10 to 12 same-age campers with two counselors spend the day together. We develop activities that help campers develop self-confidence, teamwork, an appreciation for the outdoors, creativity, and pride in themselves and their newly learned skills.

General Summary: Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills. Responsible for enforcing safety and supervision practices at the direction of the unit head and camp director.

Essential Functions/ Job Duties:
• Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in given camper group throughout the camp day in order to meet the intended camper outcomes (Belonging, Achievement, Relationships).
• Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
• Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.

Requirements:
Job Qualifications:
• Senior Counselors must be 18 years of age and finished with high school. Junior counselors must be 16 and entering junior or senior year of high school.
• Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work.
• Ability to interact with all age levels, including appropriate and friendly interaction with parents when necessary.
• Capacity to understand principles of youth development and developmental stages of youth.
• Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.
