Job: Grassroots Campaigner

The Fund for the Public Interest

123 Hawley St Suite 3
Northampton, MA 01060

Company Description:
Fund for the Public Interest is a national, nonprofit organization that runs campaigns for America’s leading environmental and public interest organizations. We launched the Fund in 1982 to help find ways to engage people on the most pressing problems of our day and turn that support into solutions. And now we run the nation’s largest and most effective canvassing and telephone membership operation. Our canvassers and callers talk to people one-on-one and through those interactions help make thousands, sometimes millions of people’s voices heard, through petitions, emails, small donations and meetings. That’s people power, and that’s what it takes to make a difference for the environment, for our democracy, and more.

Description:
Canvasser: Making change happen, one conversation at a time.

Are you good with people? As a canvasser, you’ll go out into communities, knock on doors and talk to people about the issues. You’ll raise awareness, build membership, and raise money for the organizations we work with. Canvassing is the heart of so many of the campaigns we work on, and canvassing positions are available all across the country.

What does a canvasser do?
As a canvasser with the Fund, you’ll work out of a campaign office in one of dozens of cities across the country. You’ll go out into communities, knock on doors and talk to people about the issues. You’ll build people power, raise awareness, and raise money for the organizations we work with.

What does a field manager do?
In addition to canvassing every day, field managers are more involved in recruiting, motivating and training their fellow canvassers to hit our goals. They also have additional responsibilities to set performance goals, map out canvassing territories, keep good financial records, and help implement the non-canvassing aspects of the campaign (e.g. media, coalition-building, petitioning).

Compensation and benefits
Canvassers generally earn about $400 - $600 each week. Field managers earn an additional $50 - $100 each week.
