Join the DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Team! For ten months, 19 DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps members create positive youth development opportunities in schools and local agencies throughout the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. AmeriCorps members use a collaborative, student-centered approach to support young people’s autonomy, belonging and personal learning aspirations. They use arts and experiential learning activities to create spaces where youth can develop meaningful goals, drive their own solutions, make decisions, fail, learn and grow. The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Program (DSAP) has three core elements: 1) On-site youth work at the Children's Study Home. Duties and Responsibilities: • Maintain a nurturing climate within the residence that is therapeutically oriented and follows the child and family’s treatment goals to include communicating with children in a respectful and professional manner exhibiting empathy and understanding. • Maintain and demonstrate an awareness of agency policies, practices, and procedures, and follow all rules and regulations of the Study Home. • Demonstrate an ongoing awareness and commitment to diversity (racial, ethnic, socio-economic, gender identity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs) and the traditions of all individuals served, in order to accomplish the mission of the organization. • Participate in the development and implementation of responsive programming that promotes learning and growth in accordance with each child and family’s treatment goals. (multimedia arts projects, theater arts, outdoor adventure experiences, etc.) • Serve as a positive role model for clients, parents and staff. • Plan and organize recreational and social activities for youth on and off agency grounds, as directed by supervisor. • Interact with parents and peers in a positive, respectful and professional manner. • Interact with the educational and clinical staff on a regular basis to ensure that the objectives of the service plan are being met. 2) Team service project 3) Weekly training and reflection to build youth work skills and increase knowledge of different learning styles, social justice issues, arts integration, motivational interviewing, asset-based community development, group dynamics and facilitation. Package includes a Stipend of up to $13,000 and Education Award of up to $5,815. Youth work experience is recommended, but not required. Some work history is necessary.
