Description:
The Amherst College Department of Art and the History of Art invites applications for the position of film, video, and photography coordinator. Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. The coordinator is responsible for the operation, organization, and maintenance of the equipment cage, photo lab, and digital editing lab, which is located in the historic Fayerweather Hall, which houses the college's Department of Art and the History of Art. In addition, the coordinator assists students in both in the art and the history of art department and the film and media studies program, and collaborates with faculty to create a respectful, efficient and collaborative learning environment.

This is a full-time, academic year position (forty-two weeks per year). The work schedule is generally, Monday, Wednesday and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The key responsibilities of the position are enumerated below:

Faculty Support
• Supports the academic, instructional, technical and facility needs of students and faculty in film/video and photography
• Works with faculty to anticipate classroom needs for equipment and additional technical instruction
• Trains faculty in the use of facility and software, and helps integrate the digital lab into their courses

Equipment Cage, Photo and Digital Editing Labs
• Operates the film/video and photo equipment and facilities within Fayerweather Hall
• Maintains all equipment including repair and supply orders
• Establishes, implements, and maintains equipment checkout policies and procedures in coordination with the Amherst College Library

QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements for this position include a bachelor's degree in studio art, photography, film or video, orrelated field,with an MFA preferred; two to three years of related experience; proficiency with digital photography, digital video, lighting, and sound recording; proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software, especially Photoshop and Premier; working knowledge of analogue still and movie cameras, film processing and digital film and video cameras, lights, sound equipment, ink jet printers, film scanners; familiarity with RIP software; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills; accuracy and attention to detail; ability to take initiative and work both independently and collaboratively; flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours to best serve the needs of our students and faculty. The hourly rate is commensurate with experience.
