The Family Support Specialist works directly with families who have a child/youth with emotional/behavioral challenges providing support, guidance, and empowerment to parents or caregivers. Candidate will assist families so they may effectively navigate through the various systems of care and educational programs and processes. He/she must be knowledgeable about local community resources that support children’s emotional health and be familiar with the services provided by family serving agencies in Berkshire County. Requirements: The Family Support Specialist must have relevant life experience as a parent/caregiver of a child with a social, emotional, or behavioral challenges, demonstrated ability to work as a team member and the capacity to respect the unique needs and strengths of each family. Candidate must facilitate support groups and organizing trainings on various mental health, educational or enrichment topics. Candidate must have a strong knowledge of the Massachusetts special education law and process. A bachelor’s degree is preferred but related life or work experience may be considered as a partial substitution. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel.
