Working closely with the Kitchen Manager, the Assistant Manager will work four days per week including most weekends. Position starts in February 2018. Responsibilities include: --Plan and prepare tasty and nutritious vegetarian meals for 25-45 people --Maintain a clean, orderly and efficient kitchen work space --Train and support retreatants in kitchen tasks --Assist in ordering food and kitchen supplies --Other duties as necessary and/or assigned by the Kitchen Manager Requirements: --One or more years of professional cooking experience featuring organic whole food ingredients, in a high-volume kitchen, preferably in a contemplative work setting --Good organizational skills with demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks with flexibility and good humor --Flexibility in schedule, and ability to work some evenings and most weekends --Ability to remain calm under kitchen pressure, and to work compassionately with retreatants --Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to take direction; ability to function as both team leader and team player --An interest in meditation practice and being of service --Position involves standing for long periods and occasionally requires physical labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects This is a salaried position offering health and dental benefits, retirement plan, meals, generous paid time off, and an IMS/BCBS staff sangha program.
