Established in 1983 New England Business Associates (NEBA) is a nonprofit organization known nationally and internationally for its work in supported employment as well as supporting the integration needs and rights of people with disabilities and/or employment challenges. We are the recipient of many awards, including Best Practice from the national Association of People Supporting Employment First. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals, and currently serve more than 600 people annually through employment, self-employment, skill-building, and community inclusion programs. Individuals served have a myriad of skills, abilities and interests and are between the ages of 15 and 68. NEBA has contracts with the Department of Developmental Disabilities, the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services, the Department of Transitional Assistance, and local school systems for students transitioning from high school. NEBA is also a registered employment network through the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program.

Description:
New England Business Associates is seeking a full time (35 hours per week) Employment Consultant to support job seekers with developmental disabilities throughout Hampden County. The Employment Consultant works directly with assigned job seekers to assess their interests, preferences, strengths, and support needs. In addition to communication with job seekers, the Employment Consultant works with employers in the community to develop ongoing relationships that will aid in obtaining employment opportunities now and in the future. Ideal Candidates will be outgoing, flexible, creative, have good verbal and written communication skills, and have good negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

Establish relationships with community employers and procure quality employment opportunities for persons assigned.
Communicate and interact with all significant people in the lives of the job seeker to ensure successful employment.
Coordinate necessary natural supports both inside and outside the work environment utilizing community resources.
Maintain constant communication with multiple program staff concerning job seekers needs and accomplishments.
Travel to multiple locations daily and transport participants as needed utilizing own vehicle.
Knowledge / Skills

Possess interpersonal skills and professional appearance necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, individuals served, management and customers.
Excellent oral and written skills; display communication that is complimentary to teaching strategies with individuals who have developmental disabilities.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently with periodic guidance and direction.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employers and program participants.
Requirements:
Qualifications

Previous experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
Must have strong writing and computer skills.
Previous experience with job development preferred.
Acceptable background checks & driving record required.
