Amherst College invites applications for the Executive Assistant to the President for Communications and Project Management position. The executive assistant to the president for communications and project management is a full-time, year round position, job group and level AO-5. The executive assistant is responsible for facilitating presidential communications and cross-divisional project management.

Reporting to the chief of staff but working with minimal supervision, the executive assistant is a strategic writer who prepares and manages time-critical, often sensitive and/or confidential correspondence, briefings, and other communications for the president, including honorary degree citations. The assistant researches and prepares background materials and draft remarks for the president for high-level events. The assistant manages the president's considerable correspondence, logging it, directing it to other parties as appropriate, preparing draft replies for the president, tracking replies to ensure timely responses, and ensuring the president is briefed regularly on the progress of her correspondence. The assistant interfaces with divisions and units across the College (particularly advancement and communications) to ensure constituents receive high-quality presidential communications, in the process enhancing collaboration and communication between the president's office and the College. The assistant is responsible for partnering with communications to manage the president's web and social media presence in ways that enhance communications with all constituencies and reflect and enhance the president's standing as a national leader in higher education. The executive assistant also prepares research as needed for the chief of staff.

As a project manager, the executive assistant works with the chief of staff to track strategic plan implementation, with responsibility for building tracking models and utilizing software tools. The assistant provides similar facilitation for other office- and College-level projects and initiatives as needed. The assistant facilitates key meetings led by the chief of staff to help guide conversations, capture and record decisions and next steps, write and distribute minutes, and track progress. The assistant also collaborates with the president's office staff and other units to coordinate presidential special events. As needed, the assistant provides back-up support to the assistant to the president/office manager.

The assistant takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Manages and prepares presidential correspondence and communications, including confidential correspondence, remarks, reports, briefings, research, web and social media copy, and other projects as assigned. Edits draft correspondence from advancement and sends to president for review. Partners with communications on the preparation of presidential materials.
• Provides project management support for office-level and cross-divisional initiatives, including tracking strategic plan implementation.
