JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant
DEPARTMENT: Fiscal
SUMMARY: This position will assist the Fiscal Systems Manager with all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and other projects
AUTHORITY: Reports to and is supervised by the Fiscal Systems Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
? Prepare and submit monthly bills for state contracts, private insurance programs and other programs
? Maintain the A/R and revenue receipts to subsidiary and general ledgers in the accounting software
? Prepare and enter monthly revenue entries
? Track and follow up on billings, payments, denials and adjustments to state agencies, compare to approved contractual limits and reconcile with SAMS and bank statements
? Prepare monthly recurring general journal entries for month close
? Perform monthly and ad hoc reconciliations on general ledger
? Review weekly A/P and recommend cash requirements to Fiscal Systems Manager
? Maintain and balance Petty Cash
? Assist the Fiscal Systems Manager in managing the allocations of shared costs among the various programs
? Review on Money Management petty cash and bill payments
? Assist with Year-End Audit and UFR filing as well as other Agency filings and registrations as needed
? Maintain a Policy & Procedures Manual for the position
? Participate in the cross-training of job duties in the Fiscal Department and provide coverage in the absence of other Fiscal staff
? Assist with special projects in Fiscal and Internal Operations, as needed.
? Attends applicable staff/agency meetings
? Supports Supervisor to meet Agency needs and ensure compliance with internal controls

Education and/or Experience
? Bachelor’s Degree in related field with over 3 years of relevant experience working in an Accounting Department
Competencies
? Must be able to read and write English proficiently
? Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
? Basic typing skills (50 wpm) and strong data entry skills
? Strong computer skills including thorough working knowledge of Windows 7+ and MS Office
? Familiarity with an accounting software package. MIP preferred.
? Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
? Thorough knowledge of accounting
? Highly organized, detail-driven, self-motivated, with ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
? Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
? Ability to review and reconcile spreadsheets, reports and general ledger
Physical Requirements
? While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, walk or move around the agency and drive or arrange transportation to attend meetings or trainings.
? The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
? Must be able to sit and operate a keyboard and adding machine up to 80% of the time.
