Join the DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Team! For ten months, 19 DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps members create positive youth development opportunities in schools and local agencies throughout the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. AmeriCorps members use a collaborative, student-centered approach to support young people’s autonomy, belonging and personal learning aspirations. They use arts and experiential learning activities to create spaces where youth can develop meaningful goals, drive their own solutions, make decisions, fail, learn and grow. The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Program (DSAP) has three core elements: • On-site youth work at a local school or nonprofit. • Team service project in collaboration with youth and community. • Weekly training and reflection to build youth work skills and increase knowledge of different learning styles, social justice issues, arts integration, motivational interviewing, asset-based community development, group dynamics and facilitation. The DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps Members serving the Runaway & Homeless Youth (RHY) Programs will: • Participate in weekly outreach activities including reaching out to youth in schools, at community meals and events, on the streets, and at other youth services agencies, and reaching out to other community members at different service agencies and community events. • Respond to Information and Referral phone calls and provide support to youth and their families in the community. • As needed, assist RHY Programs Youth Workers with ongoing case management of youth. Includes holding one- on-one meetings with youth ages 11-25 to discuss goal setting and future planning. • As needed, assist resource drop-in staff in creating weekly recreational and educational opportunities for youth as well as multiple seasonal activities and events, such as the Green Light Project (November), events for National Safe Place week (March), etc. • Plan weekly life skills lessons and activities for all RHY participants. • Support resource drop-in centers for runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth ages 15-21, as needed. Package includes a Stipend of up to $14,000 and Education Award of up to $5,920. Youth work experience is recommended, but not required. Some work history is necessary. Because part of the region is rural, it is highly beneficial to have a driver’s license with access to reliable transportation.
