Description:
The Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) is looking for a Paraprofessional, who has experience working with students with disabilities to join our North Berkshire Academy (NBA) for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Paraprofessional will provide assistance to teacher(s) in the alternative learning programs. We empower our educators, and we invest in training to help them grow as professionals. Purpose: As a member of the North Berkshire Academy team, the Paraprofessional ?will provide
assistance to teacher(s) in the alternative learning programs.

Essential Functions:
- Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, instruct students in academic
- Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, instruct students in recreational activities
- Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, instruct students in prevocational and life-skills
tasks
- Follow daily schedules and lesson plans prepared by teacher(s)
- Prepare, organize and maintain classroom materials
- Be aware of current IEP objectives and accommodations for each student
- Work in conjunction with specialists in carrying out suggested programs

Additional Responsibilities:
- Meet daily with supervising staff to review events of the day and plan for following day
- Observe, record and chart student behaviors, and implement behavior management programs
as directed by administrators and/or teachers
- Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of all program areas
- As needed, and under the guidance of the school nurse, monitor and/or follow specific protocols
for students with certain health care needs
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by Program Director or designee

Minimum Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree or completion of 48 credit hours at an accredited college or university
- Education or experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification
- Training in nonviolent intervention techniques

Preferred Qualifications:
- 7D License to transport students

Physical Demands:
- Requires physical conditioning sufficient for frequent standing/walking and/or sitting, and
participation in physical education
- Requires mental stamina to endure daily job stress in an environment that at times is verbally
and/or physically threatening

Working Conditions:
- Student behavior may be threatening; staff will be trained in non-violent intervention
techniques
- Students with health care needs may need constant monitoring and specific protocols; staff will
be trained in areas as needed by the program nurse

Terms of Employment:
- 185 days; School Calendar: September - June
- 35 hours/week, Monday – Friday
