Description:
The Collaborative for Educational Services (CES) is looking for two dynamic, dedicated Paraprofessionals to join our summer program at HEC Academy in Northampton, MA, which serves students with social/emotional/behavioral challenges and learning disabilities. These two individuals will teach and/or support teaching on a daily basis under the guidance of special educators and content teachers, and will help support implementation of the HEC Academy's behavioral system. These are part-time, seasonal positions from July 6 - August 10, 2018. Individuals with strong math/science skills highly desired. Review of resumes will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.

Title: Summer Program Paraprofessional I

Reports to: Special Education Program Coordinator
Salary: Scale

Purpose: Provide assistance to the teacher(s) in the alternative learning programs.

Essential Functions:
• Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, instruct students in academics
• Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, instruct students in recreational activities
• Under the supervision of the classroom teacher, instruct students in prevocational and life skills tasks
• Supervise students in community activities and physical education
• Follow daily schedules and lesson plans prepared by teacher and self
• Prepare, organize and maintain classroom materials
• Be aware of current IEP objectives and accommodations for each student
• Work in conjunction with specialists in carrying out suggested programs

Additional Responsibilities:
• Attend in service and curriculum activities
• Meet daily with supervising staff to review events of the day and plan for following day
• Observe, record and chart student behaviors, and implement behavior management programs as
directed by administrators and/or teachers
• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of all program areas
• Under the guidance of the school nurse, monitor and/or follow specific protocols for students with
certain health care needs, as needed
• Assume additional responsibilities as directed by Special Education Program Coordinator or designee

Minimum Qualifications:
• An Associate's degree or completion of 48 credit hours at an Institution of Higher Education

Preferred Qualifications:
• Education or experience working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges
• Massachusetts 7-D driver’s license
• Training in nonviolent intervention techniques
• Current First Aid and CPR Certification
• Bilingual skills desirable


Physical Demands:
• Requires physical conditioning sufficient for frequent standing/walking and/or sitting
• Requires mental stamina to endure daily job stress

Working Conditions:
- Requires the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in response to emotionally-laden, challenging, and/or offensive student behaviors, which may include verbal abuse or physical
aggression.

Terms of Employment:
- Part-time seasonal position: July 6 - August 10, 2018
- 25 hours/week, Monday – Friday (8:30am – 1:30pm)
- This position is not benefits eligible
