Description:
The Part-time Content Specialist in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) occupies a position within the Test Development Services department of Evaluations Systems. The qualified candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following academic areas: ESOL pedagogy; applied linguistics (as applied to ESOL); theoretical foundations of first- and second-language acquisition; and English language arts pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on reading instruction based on scientific reading research. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop multiple-choice and constructed-response test items and other related materials for educator licensure assessments in ESOL at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Other responsibilities include reviewing and editing materials from other item developers and ensuring content accuracy and quality control. The Content Specialist reports to a Test Development Manager.
This position is located in our Hadley, MA office. Remote work is not offered at this time.

Responsibilities
Writes and edits test items and related assessment materials for use in test banks and test preparation products
Evaluates and documents alignment of assessment materials to state and national standards
Stays apprised of developing trends in the field of ESOL education at the state and national level
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
A master's degree or equivalent in a field directly related to English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (e.g., applied linguistics in ESOL, speech language pathology)
ESOL teaching experience, including the use of educational technology, at the elementary, middle school, and/or high school level highly desirable
ESOL assessment and/or curriculum development experience with an educational publisher or assessment provider a plus
Knowledge of reading development and reading instruction based on scientific reading research a plus
Familiarity with Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts a plus
Familiarity with the WIDA English Language Development Standards a plus
Skills
Demonstrated advanced writing, editorial, and research skills
Proficiency with computers and software, including Microsoft Word
Works well independently and in a collaborative team setting
Well organized, able to set priorities and manage work within tight schedules
