The City of Northampton Senior Services Department is seeking someone to coordinate the service of food within the senior center, collaborate with partners around food access for seniors as well as provide educational opportunities for seniors.

Schedule: 25 hours per week, mostly during the day

Essential Functions:
Cooks and prepares food for various functions of the Department, including but not limited to the coffee shop, lunch programs, afternoon teas, etc. as well as catering functions for larger events and/or rental functions. Works with the Director to determine catering costs for rental services.
Oversees inventory, stocking, upkeep and maintenance of all equipment. Examines all food service areas in the building on a regular basis to determine needed repairs and maintenance. Consults with Director and other staff regarding services for special programs and events. Oversees and/or recommends the recruitment, employment, assignment, and dismissal of food service paid/unpaid staff, including contracted instructors, for cooking classes, group cooking programs, meal programs and volunteers involved in coffee shop and dining coordination, food prep and other tasks.
Orients and trains staff, volunteers and contractors on the use of equipment and processes in preparing and serving food.
Works with various suppliers, including local farms and purchasing cooperatives, staying within a budget. Increase capacity for production of high quality products, including offerings that are at an accessible price point for low income populations, by creating revenue through other food initiatives/products sold onsite.
Works with staff of senior center to create programs, collaborate with community partners, (such as CISA, farms and purchasing cooperatives) to ensure we are addressing senior food access issues, are able to procure/use high quality ingredients whenever possible, to provide educational opportunities and serve foods in celebration/recognition of different ethnic groups/ traditions of the various populations we serve.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in food service management and at least one year relevant experience or high school diploma and four years of food service management, of which at least three years have been in a supervisory position; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of valley food systems, suppliers and farms preferred.
Current ServeSafe/Allergen Certification preferred (or willing to be trained).
Massachusetts Class D Driver's License required.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skill: Thorough knowledge of the administration, foods, equipment, materials, methods and techniques relative to food service operations. Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of paid/unpaid staff engaged in a variety of food prep and service tasks.
Food Service experience in a social service organization/food services training program and/or volunteer management or teaching a plus. Must have the ability to manage/train volunteers and teach senior participants of various ages and backgrounds with flexibility, tact and patience. The ability to manage inventory, a budget and keep a clean kitchen are required.
