Description:
Industrial Design Engineer
This position will work closely with Process Engineers, Design Engineers, R&D Engineers, Quality Assurance and Wire & Cable Equipment suppliers. The position will be responsible for seeking out and eliminating waste from Judd’s legacy and mature processes in order to improve Process Cycle Efficiency, Process Lead Time, throughout, yield and downtime with the ultimate goal to increase company profits by implementing cost-effective solutions in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Demonstrates a technical approach to solving problems through use of proven engineering principles and theories; Possess the ability to successfully participate on cross-functional teams through effective communication, positively engage with operators, area supervisors and technical leads on the production floor.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
•Develop and/or modify procedures to reduce waste within production processes through evaluation of material, process flow and value stream mapping
•Support process improvement projects to reduce defects, cycle time, and manufacturing cost.
•Develop improvement projects to sustain established and legacy products. Assist production to solve problems related to these manufacturing processes. Assist in improvements or cost savings activities for existing processes and products.
•Setting up and evaluating new technologies and equipment for process development and improvement.
•Designs and studies process flow charts; recommends and implements modifications in work and material flow.
•Work with equipment suppliers to insure resulting processes are capable, have sufficient controls in place, and perform as intended during equipment buyoff / acceptance testing.
•Maintaining a strong presence on the production floor while positively influencing and building relationships with shop floor members and operations staff.
•Identify and correct problems through use of root cause problem solving skills along with experimental approaches such as DOE, 5-Y, MSA, fishbone diagram, etc.
Requirements:
Qualifications
Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Operations, or related Engineering field required.
0 – 2 years of experience as an Industrial, Manufacturing or Process Engineer in a high volume manufacturing environment.
Basic understanding and exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma principles and Statistical Process Control preferred.
Exposure to process and value-stream mapping, spaghetti diagrams, swim-lane flow charts and the DMAIC approach to problem solving.
Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
Basic understanding of APQP tools such as FMEA, Control Plans & Process Flow to satisfy TS16949 requirements.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
