Description:
The Greenfield Public School Department seeks a dynamic, organized, and knowledgeable individual to oversee and coordinate student transportation services for the school district. The Transportation Coordinator will oversee both contracted and district-owned vehicles, as well as in and out-of-district general and special education vehicles and routes. The ability to work collaboratively and effectively with drivers and monitors, as well as school district administrators, is essential.

DUTIES:

• Manage transportation contracts with private vendors; coordinate the scheduling and routing of district and private vendor buses and vans;
• Recruit and train bus drivers and bus monitors; review applications and schedule trainings of qualified candidate; reviews bus routes and recommends changes; assign district drivers to routes best suited to the overall transportation needs; establish district transportation guidelines—specific protocol for driving, loading and unloading students, and care of buses;
• Instruct bus drivers, safety assistants, and monitors in safety procedures and special guidelines for unique students;
• Oversee care and maintenance of district vehicles; inspect assigned buses for cleanliness, condition of seats, mechanical and body condition, and vandalism;
• Complete reports and keep records as required by state and local authorities and to satisfy need for accuracy in hourly pay;
• Conduct daily review of drivers' performance and punctuality; provide oversight and supervision of all transportation employees; promptly and fairly investigate and handle complaints by personnel or families;
• Handle the homeless transportation requirements, coordinating with Student Services Department to provide efficient and consistent transportation for all homeless students;
• Works closely with the City Department of Public Works for vehicle purchase, worthiness for student transport, and to ensure that all mechanical deficiencies noted by drivers are corrected;
• Work with Principals to schedule drivers for field trips;
• Manages Crossing Guards and schedules;
• Reports to the Superintendent or their designee;
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as requested by central office administrators.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:

• Interpersonal skills for working with a wide variety of parents and personnel;;
• Business skills to manage a fleet of buses and coordinate with private carriers, according to contract arrangements;
• Organization skills to track issues and problems and assure prompt resolution;
• Flexible hours necessary, some early morning and late afternoons required;
• Hold or willingness to obtain a license to drive buses, e.g. in an emergency;
• Personnel experience to work with drivers and monitors;
• Technology acumen to implement routing and scheduling software;
• Bachelor's Degree, preferred;
• Knowledge of Federal and State regulations;
• Knowledge of Greenfield roads, housing areas, and traffic patterns;
• Positive references from prior work experience.
