Job Description
UMass Hillel is seeking a full-time Development Associate to implement our annual campaign
fundraising strategy with measurable goals, project schedules, and budgets. The position
reports directly to the Director of Advancement and works with the Executive Director, other
Hillel staff and volunteer leadership to ensure the successful implementation of UMass Hillel’s
development strategy and positive communications and stewardship of our donors. The
Development Associate is often a first point of contact for donors, students, vendors and
visitors to campus and contributes significantly in making Hillel a vibrant and welcoming center
of Jewish life on the UMass Amherst campus. This position is a great opportunity to work

Job Responsibilities
Development
1. Oversee and implement UMass Hillel’s direct response fundraising including four to six
annual appeal letters, various online campaigns such as UMass Gives Days and e-blasts.
This includes collecting impact stories and quotes for the campaigns, preparing letters,
communications and mail merges and managing print production of all direct mail
solicitations. Works with UMass Bulk Mail and National Change of Address.
2. Process donations and maintain weekly log of incoming gifts, including tributes, hard
and soft credits, workplace gifts, grants, event sponsorships, online gifts, monthly
donations, and other gift types. Maintain log of non-donation income including grant
and allocations and rental income. Prepare donations, other checks and invoices for
accountant to process.
3. Prepare acknowledgment letters and pledge reminders. Track all new and large donors
to ensure proper follow-up phone calls and acknowledgment.
4. Manage DonorPerfect database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor information.
Prepare fundraising and donor reports as needed by Director of Advancement and
Executive Director.
5. Conduct prospect research to identify and qualify major gift prospects and donor moves
management from cultivation to solicitation.
6. Assist with scheduling of donor meetings and calendaring. Prepare materials for
prospect and donor meetings for Director of Advancement and Executive Director.
7. In close coordination with the Board Chair and Executive Director, assist in the
preparation and distribution of materials for quarterly meetings of the Board of
Directors.
8. Assist with planning, coordination and implementation of major events and special
projects.

Office Support
1. Respond to inquiries from students, visitors, donors, vendors and other constituents.
Directs constituents to appropriate staff when necessary.
2. Receive and sort mail and deliveries.
3. Process checks and invoices.
4. Supervise work-study students to assist with development work.
5. Maintain inventory of office supplies and orders, and, when necessary, obtain price
comparisons for new orders.
6. Maintain organizational files.

Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
2. A minimum of two years’ experience supporting a non-profit development office
3. Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong written and verbal communication
4. Direct experience and strong skills with donor databases required – DonorPerfect or
DonorPerfect Online preferred
5. Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage multiple projects
6. Skilled at handling confidential information with discretion
7. Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively
8. Strong analytical and decision-making skills
9. Commitment to organizational mission and values
10. Proficiency with computers and MS Office Suite
11. Strong work ethic and high-performance standards
