Carpenter/Locksmith

Reporting to the Carpentry Supervisor, perform carpentry duties and other similar tasks as needed or directed, operating effectively in conjunction with the other construction trades to ensure smooth operations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings and assist with new construction to enhance academy properties and execute work orders as assigned on a regular basis
• Remodel kitchens and baths, repair roofs, and assist with repair of water leaks and minor cement work with top quality care and skill
• Assist the Institutional Locksmith with locksmithing duties as needed or directed by Carpentry Supervisor, operating effectively in conjunction with the other construction trades to ensure smooth operations.
• Work together with other trades in an efficient and respectful manner to do excellent work
• Respond to building special requests according to academy needs
• Follow established protocol for work requests and completion of tasks as requested to ensure consistency and work order tracking
• Attend all Safety Program training, comply with all Academy Safety Program policies and procedures while performing job duties, both on and off Academy property, and utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Attend professional development as needed to maintain current licensing and to learn new aspects of the trades.
• Other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

• Completion of 12th grade or equivalent
• 3 - 5 years’ work related experience in all aspects of construction, especially Carpentry
• A current Construction Supervisor’s License is a plus
• Valid Driver’s License
• Knowledge of building construction and the building code
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and via computer technology
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Exceptional attention to detail required
• Ability to make general observations about structures and facilities and troubleshoot problems

Physical Demands

• Knowledge of and ability to safely use power tools, ladders and staging
• Ability to frequently:
  • climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding
  • stoop, crouch and kneel
  • reach, feel, grasp and finger objects
  • sustain substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • crawl and work in enclosed spaces
  • walk from one work site to the next
  • receive and communicate information with others to safely and effectively perform functions of job
• Ability to occasionally lift, move and carry objects up to 50 lbs.

  **SIGN-ON BONUS**

  The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at time of hire and $500 paid at the end of 90 days of employment.
