Description:
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director assists with the administration, coordination and evaluation of the Human Resources function including, employee relations, compensation, benefits, employee recruitment, federal and state labor law compliance, and training and development for the Academy, providing advice, assistance, and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation, including the coordination and resolution of specific policy-related procedural problems and inquiries.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
• collaborating with departmental managers and supervisors to identify and resolve employee issues early and effectively;
• assisting with the employee Performance Development Assessment process to ensure clarity of job expectations with and emphasis upon professional development;
• managing employee complaints, conducting investigations when required, and advising the academy’s administration on courses of action;
• managing employee medical and other leaves, according to federal and state regulations;
• assisting with employee compensation and benefits, including forecasting and analysis, cyclic processing, reporting and compliance;
• ensuring timely and accurate compliance with all federal and state regulatory provisions relative to employment law;
• managing required State and Federal filings relative to employment, compensation, benefits and employee safety;
• assisting Director in developing and administering policies and practices for employee recruitment and staffing to seek, identify and retain the highest caliber employees;
• managing background checking processes to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations;
• managing the HR Assistant including overall work performance, objectives and career development
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree, 5-7 years’ experience in a progressively responsible HR role, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team at all levels of the organization; the ability to be impartial, objective, and analytical; demonstrated mediation and complaint investigation skills, experience successfully managing confidential information; a strong commitment to inclusion and cultural competency; demonstrated ability to be approachable, compassionate, and fair; exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and skill with MS Office suite and database management. Current HR certification is preferred.
