Join our team of competent and compassionate professionals as a Recreation Counselor in the Recreation program at Behavioral Health Network! Working with us, you’ll get to bicycle, backpack, X-C ski, row, canoe, fish, ice skate, sing, dance, and tell campfire stories. You’ll also make kites, cook, supervise volunteer work, build sandcastles, rollerskate, and make doll house furniture. Whatever you can’t do already, we’ll teach you. Most importantly, you’ll be sharing your best efforts with youth who cope with mental health challenges, giving them wonderful opportunities and support to have fun, share with friends, experience challenges and successes, feel safe and welcome in the world, and get on with the business of growing up healthy and happy. The hours are afternoons, evenings, and weekends and include monthly overnight trips. The schedule is flexible and negotiable. The Recreation Program at BHN in Ware, MA provides services to children and youth who have a serious mental health diagnosis or emotional disturbance that significantly impairs their functioning in school, the community and/or within their family. Opportunities with special support are provided to participants so they can experience the benefits of exciting, challenging and meaningful social engagement and activity in ways that address both their mental health needs and their overall developmental needs. The program is community-based – programs take place in natural settings throughout the community and region – with a wide range of recreation, leisure, social, sports, cultural and prevocational activities offered.
