The Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA is an independent YMCA located on 1500 acres in the beautiful Berkshires of Western MA close to nationally renowned cultural and historic attractions such as Jacob’s Pillow and Tanglewood. Chimney Corners Camp, Camp Becket, the Travel and Service Program, and the Becket Day Camp are the primary program focuses for the Becket-Chimney Corners YMCA. Camp Becket for boys and Chimney Corners Camp for girls are traditional resident camps with rich traditions and commitment to character development. Program offerings are in aquatics, athletics, theater, dance, creative arts, horseback riding, service learning, adventure trips, team building and high ropes. Our Travel & Service Programs offer a unique life experience to teens. Becket Day Camp offers summer programming for youth 5 to 12 yrs old. We are conveniently located off Route 8 past Jacobs Pillow; 15 minutes from center of Lee.

Description:
Counselors for Becket Day Camp, Camp Becket & Chimney Corners Camp

Counseling staff are a key part of the camp program. A positive, can-do attitude, flexibility and a genuine desire to work with children are important traits for our counseling staff. Counselors will co-lead a group of 8-10 campers. Counselors help campers adjust to camp life and grow in understanding of other campers and group dynamics. Counselors will ensure the health and safety of campers through role-modeling, positive guidance and supervision; eating well, staying hydrated, maintaining personal hygiene, using sunscreen, making safe choices, wearing PPE, etc. Counselors will guide and lead campers in a variety of camp activities. Counselors will regularly communicate with camp leadership staff and with camper parents/guardians when directed. Counselors may mentor younger leaders and provide feedback and support. Counselors will also work with other camp staff to plan large group activities and special events throughout the summer. Counselors must have experience working with children and be 18 years of age or older or completed grade 12/equivalent by the end of June 2021.

Program Staff for Camp Becket & Chimney Corners Camp

Program Staff are the lead instructors for a variety of program activities that we offer. Program Staff is responsible for implementing progressive program plans that allow individual participants and participant groups to set goals, complete projects, and/or acquire skills in the area(s) in which they instruct. Program Staff manages the inventory, care, maintenance, and purchasing requests of their areas equipment and supplies. Program Staff is responsible for the training/orienting and evaluation of all counseling staff and LITs assigned to assist in their area. Program Staff assist Counseling Staff with cabin/group coverage and assume counseling staff responsibilities as needed. Program Staff will also work together to plan large group and all-camp special events for campers/participants throughout the summer. Program Positions vary between camp programs but may include instructor positions in Archery, Creative Arts, Land sports, Nature/Outdoor Skills, Performing Arts, Riding/Farm, Trip Leader, Waterfront, Yearbook/Media. Program Staff must have experience working with children and be 18 years of age or older or completed grade 12/equivalent by the end of June 2021. Age requirements may be older depending on the position
