Description:

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst is seeking an outgoing individual to create a positive experience for Museum guests. The part-time bookseller supports the Museum’s mission of inspiring a love of art and reading through picture books by connecting patrons young and old with books, art supplies and toys from our world-renowned curated collection. The bookseller assists customers in person and over the phone, answering questions and processing sales transactions at the cash register. In addition, booksellers shelve, arrange, clean and organize products within the store and back inventory, support marketing initiatives, shop promotions, preorders, book signings and special events. The bookseller is part of a team of six staff members in the bookshop who work in shifts and report to the retail manager.

This position is approx. 15 hours per week including Fridays and a weekend day, preferably Sunday. Starting pay is $15.45/hour. Requirements:

Reporting to the retail manager, the position requires a team-oriented person who has a high school diploma and previous experience working with the public, an interest in children’s literature is preferred. Successful candidates should possess cultural competency to collaborate and coordinate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, strong customer service and communication skills. Candidates must be able to lift boxes of up to 30 lbs.
