Job Summary
Performs administrative work in the coordination, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of various sports programs for area youth. Attends sports programs week days evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs related work as required.

Essential Functions:

• Supervises, evaluates, implements, and coordinates various sports programs for area youth.

• Performs administrative tasks.

• Coordinates with schools and town departments, entities, and directors on use of indoor and outdoor areas and facilities; program implementation, and maintenance procedures.

• Assists with recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating coaches, referees, umpires, and other sports officials. Plans and supervises work of volunteers and other employees.

• Assists with implementation and development of training programs for staff members.

• Develops and administers evaluation systems to assess facility quality, programs and customer satisfaction, including assessing work effectiveness and uniformity of established procedures and policies.

• Responds to public inquiries about recreational and summer sports camp offerings.

• Collaborates with groups to meet programming and community needs.

• Assists with marketing and public relations for Amherst Recreation and sports programs. Utilizes local print, electronic and social media to market programs.

• Alerts Director of problems and policy issues.

• Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

Requirements:

Education, Training and Experience:
Two years of college with major in Sports Management, Recreation, or Leisure Studies plus one to three years’ experience or any equivalent combination of related education and experience are preferred. Experience in interscholastic or youth sports is required. Demonstrated knowledge of sports management, and recreational philosophy and extensive knowledge of planning and administration are required. CPR Certification is required. This is a seasonal position and requires working weekday evenings, weekend day and evenings, and holidays. Must be flexible to meet program scheduling needs.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

Knowledge. Knowledge of organizing recreational and sports events or programs. Knowledge of various sports game rules. Knowledge of sporting facilities, and maintenance of sites. Knowledge to follow public health and safety rules and regulations regarding sporting facilities. Familiarity with community facilities and resources for scheduling events. Knowledge of sports management, recreational philosophy, planning and administration. Knowledge of rule and regulations of various sports for youth programs. Knowledge of secure facilities for sports events. Knowledge to assist with marketing.

Ability. Excellent communication skills verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate in a second language is helpful. Ability to communicate respectfully with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate multiple programs and initiatives. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, community leaders, instructors, participants, youth, parents, and the general public. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of sports programs and sports programming rules and regulations. Ability to manage details for implementing sports programming and to book sporting event facilities. Ability to manage staff. Ability to perform physical manual tasks.

Skill. Proficient organizational skills; effective communicator and collaborator. Skill to assist in hiring, and retaining staff. Skill in supervising staff and volunteers. Competent in computer operation and software such as MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Skill to train staff, create and implement evaluations of staff and facilities. Skill to analyze evaluation data and generate reports. Excellent customer skills. Skill to market and publicize programs via various forms of print, social media, and electronic systems. Skill to perform administrative tasks effectively and efficiently. Strength and skill to perform manual tasks.
