Description:

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Operations, the Carpentry, Paint, Lock Shop Supervisor plans, directs, coordinates and assists with the performance and completion of all carpentry, paint, and lock-related maintenance work, and ensure all facilities are secure, safe and function properly.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include: Staff Supervision- Supervise carpenters, painters, and locksmiths; promote effective communication and foster a positive work culture; encourage and motivate the staff; Assist with and oversee day-to-day maintenance, repairs and improvements to facilities;

Coordinate and prioritize work in consultation with the Manager of Maintenance and Projects; Distribute work orders and other work assignments within the department to ensure their completion in a timely manner; Ensure that safe work practices are consistently employed and personal protective equipment is properly utilized throughout supervised functions;  Ensure the shop is appropriately stocked with supplies; review materials needs for tasks and projects and coordinate purchases; Assist with overall training, work performance, objectives, and career development of subordinates; review and develop individual job skills; Assist with recruitment of staff through Human Resources, according to Academy Best Practices; Complete professional development classes to stay current on building code, MA Construction Supervisor license, and certificates (including lead paint renovation certificates).

Carpentry, Paint, Lock Shop Responsibilities include:

Work independently and with the team to plan and complete needed repairs and/or renovations to buildings, building features, cabinetry or furniture; Actively be aware for repair and maintenance needs across campus and make recommendations to the Manager of Projects and Maintenance regarding needed renovations and/or repairs; Estimate and purchase tools, materials, equipment and supplies; Assist with function and event setups, and campus moves as required; Liaise with subcontractors and vendors to arrange the purchase of services and materials including budget, schedules and execution of work; Comply with all Academy Safety Program policies and procedures, both on and off Academy property, and utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);

Requirements:

The successful candidate for this opportunity will have completed 12th grade or the equivalent, plus knowledge of building construction and building code;  5-7 years’ work experience in all aspects of construction, supervisory experience preferred; Valid Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License;

Ability to prioritize and work within established deadlines; good organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written skills; ability to work independently as well as part of a team, problem solving skills; Computer skills including MS Office & Google Suite and the ability to read blueprints, detail oriented, knowledge of proper use of power tools and appropriate selection/use of construction materials, maintain necessary lead certificates, demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to serving the needs of a diverse community
