Job Summary:
The Swim Instructor/Aquatics Instructor is responsible for enforcing pool rules and regulations to ensure the safety and supervision of all swimmers, participants, equipment, and the overall facility. They will be heavily involved with the general public, and will assist in many facets of overall pool operation.  

In addition, Instructors are responsible for teaching various levels of swimming to children and adults; supervision of the participants in their designated learning groups; involved with interacting with the general public; and may be asked to assist in various facets of overall instruction program. Instructors develop lesson plans and act as the lead teacher and/or assist with swim lessons as assigned by the Aquatics Program Coordinator. Swim/Aquatics Instructor will have a current Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR for Professional Rescuers and AED and First Aid training. 

Supervision Received:
The Swim/Aquatics Instructor works under the supervision of the Pool Manager and Aquatics Program Coordinator and in compliance with departmental policies and procedures. 

 Major Duties:

  • Ensures the safety and supervision of the participants, equipment and facility.
  • Enforces the rules and regulations as they pertain to the facility and all swimmers.
  • Provides courteous professional assistance to the public and maintaining positive public relations.
  • Teaches and/or assists with swim lessons.
  • Assists with special events as needed.
  • Assists with regularly scheduled cleaning of pool area, locker rooms and surrounding areas.
  • Checks that safety equipment is in correct place and in good working order on a daily basis.
  • Wears designated staff uniform.
  • Attends mandatory staff meeting and in-service trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must be at least 15+ years old.  Must be certified in Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED.  Must pass water safety skill test. WSI certification is highly desirable.  Previous experience working at a pool or beach is preferred.  Previous experience teaching swimming lessons is preferred. Must pass the (CORI) history/juvenile record history as well as a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.
