Swim/Aquatics Instructor Recreation Department FLSA – Non-Exempt Part-time, Non-Union – Level 1, Step 9 Job Summary: The Swim Instructor/Aquatics Instructor teaches and/or assists with various levels of swimming instruction to children and adults. Responsible for enforcing pool rules and regulations to ensure the safety and supervision of all participants, equipment, and the overall facility. Assist in many facets of overall pool instruction and pool operation. Supervision Received: The Swim/Aquatics Instructor works under the supervision of the Pool Manager and Aquatics Program Coordinator and in compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Major Duties: - Develops lesson plans; teaches and/or assists with swim lessons for children and adults; supervises participants in designated learning groups; develops swim practice plans for recreational team.
- Ensures the safety and supervision of the participants, equipment and facility by enforcing pool and departmental rules and regulations.
- Performs daily check of safety equipment to ensure it is in the correct place and in good working order.
- Assists with regularly scheduled cleaning of pool area, locker rooms and surrounding areas.
- Provides courteous, professional assistance to the public.
- Assists with special events as needed; Attends mandatory staff meeting and in-service trainings; Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: - 15+ years of age or older
- Must successfully pass the Town’s water safety skill test
- Must successfully pass Criminal Offender Registry Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.
- Previous experience teaching swimming lessons and/or coaching swim teams.
Preferred Qualifications: - WSI certification
- Certification in Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard Training
- Certification in First Aid
- Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Certification in AED
