Description:

 

The Town of Amherst Recreation department seeks dynamic Camp Directors to lead our Fun in the Sun Day Camps.  Create unforgettable summer experiences for children through engaging programming, strong staff leadership, and a commitment to a safe environment.  Schedule - Monday- Friday, some weekend availability required. Position will be part-time, up to 19 hours per week through May 2025; 37.5 hours per week between June and August 2025.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Summer Camp Coordinator Director is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and supervision of the Town of Amherst's "Fun in the Sun" Summer Day Camp program. This position requires a combination of administrative, supervisory, and hands-on involvement with campers. Occasional weekend and evening availability required.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Three (3) or more years of college experience PLUS completion of a camp administration course; OR two (2) years of camp experience AND the completion of some camp administration work; OR equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and strong leadership abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of child development and management
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of staff.
  • Basic computer skills or willingness to learn
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours
  • Must successfully pass Criminal Offender Registry Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong personal experience in interactive extracurricular activities (arts, sports, clubs)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must provide three (3) professional references
