General Statement of Responsibilities:
The Graduate Assistant Coach (GA) reports directly to the Head Coach. They will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach in running all aspects of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) DIII sport program.
Supervision:
- Overall Supervision: Director of Athletics
- Direct Supervision: Head Coach
Sport Responsibilities
- Active role in the recruitment of student-athletes, including identification of prospective student-athletes and participation in the on-campus recruiting process, campus tours
- Meet with recruiting coordinator to plan and track recruitment efforts
- Support head coach in ensuring that all matters related to the team's student-athletes adhere to NCAA and conference rules and regulations
- Attend non-traditional and traditional practices when not interfering with recruitment opportunities, developing and coaching team training sessions
- Develop in-season and off-season player/team development plans, instruct student-athletes in regards skills and execution needed to perform the sport
- Assist in game statistical and film analysis, break down training and match film, scouting opponents
- Participate in player evaluation
- Planning and implementing home and away match logistics
Academic & Personal Support for Students:
- Provide appropriate referrals, support, and encouragement, and access to necessary college resources
- Serve as a positive academic and personal role model for students and staff including reasoned decision making and displaying positive attitude about academic and personal matters
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Contribute to a positive work climate.
- Establish and maintain a professional demeanor with student-athletes, parents, staff, etc.
- Other duties and responsibilities in addition to those above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position
- Serve as game day supervisor
- This position requires participating in department and college functions and taking leadership roles for activities
- Attend department staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities
- Provide timely response to all requests from students, staff, supervisors, and other college personnel for information and materials as directed
- Serve as an advocate for retention of students & maintain positive relations with faculty and staff
- Build positive and inclusive relationships with all students including those of diverse populations
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Acceptance in a master's level program at MCLA
- Willing to travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Competitive playing experience at the NCAA or NAIA level
Additional Information:
This is a part time, temporary position, up to 35 hours per week. This position requires weekend and evening availability due to the nature of the role.
Compensation:
- Housing: Furnished apartment is provided free of charge
- Wage: Stipend of $5,000/year paid out bi-weekly
- Tuition & Fees: Waiver for up to 6 credits each semester at MCLA only. Any additional credits and fees are the responsibility of the student to pay
- Meal Plan: Partial Meal Plan during academic semesters
Position Specifics:
- Graduate Assistant must pass a background check
- Graduate Assistant must have a current valid driver's license
- Contract runs from July 1st through June 30th
