Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Recreation Department

 The Recreation Department seeks Lifeguard/Swim Instructors responsible for enforcing pool rules and regulations to ensure the safety and supervision of all swimmers, participants, equipment, and the overall facility. They will be heavily involved with the general public, and will assist in many facets of overall pool operation. 

 Amherst Recreation Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching various levels of swimming to children and adults. Swim Instructors are also responsible for the supervision of the participants in their designated learning groups. Instructors will be involved with interacting with the general public, and may be asked to assist in various facets of overall instruction program.

Instructors will develop lesson plans and act as the lead teacher and/or assist with swim lessons as assigned by the Aquatics Program Coordinator. Lifeguards will have a current Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR for Professional Rescuers and AED and First Aid training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 15+ years of age or older and possess current Red Cross (or equivalent) certification in: Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED, First Aid.  Must successfully pass the Town’s water safety skill test; must successfully pass Criminal Offender Registry Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background checks.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• WSI certification

• Previous experience working at a pool or beach
• Previous experience teaching swimming lessons
