Maintenance Worker II (Sewer Maintenance Technician)
Public Works Department - Highway Division
FLSA – Non-Exempt

Job Summary:
Performs skilled work in the operation of sewer jet/vac truck and light and heavy trucks, and performs a variety of maintenance and construction duties, including installation of drains, water and sewer lines, repair of underground structures and pavement surfaces, cleaning of storm water and sanitary sewer lines, and operation of sewer camera.  

Major Duties:
1.    Operates sewer jet/vac truck, sewer camera, and slip lining equipment. Responsible for the care, repair, and operation of the sewer camera and other maintenance equipment.  Works with outside contractor for slip lining, root treatment, and other sewer maintenance work as needed.  Responsible for coordination and scheduling of outside contractors, and requisition of supplies and materials for work, as assigned.

2.    Performs highway construction and maintenance work. Assists in installation of water services and mains. Lays, connects, and repairs sewer drainage pipes. Rods, cleans and patches sewer lines. Maintains appropriate grade. Repairs and patches pavement surface. Sets concrete and granite berms and bounds. Cleans catch basins and manholes. Repairs and sets signs and barricades.

3.    Performs miscellaneous painting, seeding, and loaming.

4.    Operates light and heavy trucks of all sizes, including for road maintenance and construction work, and in the transport of laborers, equipment and materials. Operates truck mounted sand spreaders and similar attachments, and snowplowing equipment. Operates recycling equipment, as needed.

5.    Performs some basic maintenance and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment.

6.    Enters and maintains accurate records of work completed in computer data base. Retrieves records and information from computer data base and GIS browser, as needed.  

7.    Performs other duties as assigned.

8.    Designated as Essential Personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School degree or equivalent PLUS four (4) years’ experience related to sewer systems or wastewater maintenance OR any combination of experience and specialized training demonstrating the ability to perform the above duties safely and efficiently.

    Valid State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker and airbrake endorsement OR ability to obtain License within one year of hire;
    2A Hydraulic License OR ability to obtain License within one year of hire;
    Commonwealth of Massachusetts Grade 3 Wastewater collection system certification (per NEWEA)
    Certification in the FEMA National Incident Management System ICS 100/NIMS 700 and OSHA 10-hour Certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
    Working knowledge of computers
    Ability to accurately enter data and maintain a computer database for record keeping and retrieval.
    Ability to use GIS browser.
