Pool Manager
Recreation Department

FLSA – Non-Exempt
Part-time, Seasonal – Level 3, Step 6

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Plans, directs, and coordinates activities at the Town’s Pools. Supervises lifeguards and swim instructors. Enforces pool rules and regulations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction and guidance of the Aquatics Coordinator and the Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION GIVEN:
Supervises part-time and seasonal Lifeguards and Swim Instructors.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates activities at the Town’s Pools; enforces pool rules and safety regulations.
  • Maintains pool chemical levels thru testing and application, per state regulations; Inspects pool equipment and reports any issues; maintains clean and sanitary pool facilities.
  • Purchases concessions and supplies/equipment for pools.
  • Documents incidents, including accidents, injuries, and consumer complaints.
  • Secures the facility at closing, ensuring all gates and doors are locked.
  • Collects and processes daily receipts for deposit.
  • Supervises Lifeguards and Swim Instructors; manages staff scheduling and coordination; prepares staff schedules and reviews timesheets for accuracy and timely submission; organizes and leads staff training sessions; conducts mid and end of season staff reviews.
  • Delivers professional, respectful customer service.
  • Performs related duties as needed or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school coursework, PLUS one (1) to three (3) years of experience in a sports management or related role; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position.

  • Lifeguard Training certified
  • CPR certified
  • First Aid certified
  • Red Cross certified
  • Ability to swim
  • Understanding of lifeguard responsibilities, Red Cross pool policies, pool safety and sanitation, chemical handling and measurements, basic math for chemical application, staff supervision, and pool operations
  • Proficiency in cash handling and administrative duties
  • Ability to plan, organize, and communicate effectively

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to successfully pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information) background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit, stand, talk, hear, and walk for extended periods; occasionally swim; bend, stoop, turn, and use hands for handling tools or equipment. Requires reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs., and operating pool and office equipment. Vision requirements include close, medium, peripheral, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Must distinguish voice patterns and hear normal sound levels. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

JOB ENVIRONMENT:
Work takes place in both pool and office settings, with exposure to weather, wet surfaces, and moderate to loud noise. Operates standard office equipment. Regular contact with the public, staff, and participants involves information exchange and providing instructions. Handles confidential program information; errors in judgment may significantly impact service delivery and could have legal or financial consequences for the Town.
