After School Group Leader/Counselor

The Town of Amherst Recreation Department is seeking multiple After School Group Leaders to be part of Primetime team that provides high quality care experiences for children K-6.  This position is 3-18 hours per week and qualified applicants must be over 18 and successfully pass CORI, SORI and SAFIS fingerprinting background checks. 

JOB SUMMARY:  As a team leader for the After-School Program, the Group Leader/Counselor provides after-school day care educational and recreational experiences for children and guides and directs activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

High School Degree or equivalent PLUS one to three years of demonstrated experience leading, guiding, and planning children’s educational and recreational activities; OR any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certifications or the ability to acquire certifications within three months of hire.
  • Must be able to successfully pass CORI and SORI screens and SAFIS fingerprinting.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Safety, and other trainings as required by the local town or state. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  
  • Experience in creating educational and recreational curricula.
  • Knowledgeable about child development, motivational, and child psychology techniques.
