Part-time Library Technician – Jones Library Youth Services

Job Summary:

The Jones Library System seeks a creative and energetic Library Technician to work part-time in the Youth Services Department at our main Jones Library branch.  This position works under the general supervision of the Head of Youth Services.  We are looking for an individual who displays a genuine enjoyment of welcoming and working with people of all ages; who enjoys current children’s media; who has great communication skills and is committed to providing excellent customer service; and is excited about opportunities to provide educational and recreational services to library visitors. 

Duties include:

  • Provides exceptional customer service and a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
  • Provides reading recommendations and reference help for children ages 0-10 and their caregivers.
  • Uses library computer system to check out and in library materials, and to register and update borrowers’ records; finds requested materials for patrons; answers questions on how to use the library and directs patrons to other staff members as appropriate.
  • Explains library policies; answers telephone calls.

Requires High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience working in a customer service capacity with people of all ages; experience working with various types of computer software; interest in reading; ability to pay close attention to detail; ability to handle stressful situations. Must have flexibility to cover Saturday shifts. 

This is a part-time position (up to 19.5 hours per week). The schedule for this position is:

Fridays 9-1, Saturdays 10-3 (with the option to expand hours).  There is also an optional shift at our North Amherst Branch, Wednesday 3:30-7:30 under the Head of Branches.  The hiring range is $15.76-$21.18 in 11 steps.
