After School Group Leader/Counselor

Recreation Department

The Amherst Recreation Department is seeking After School Group Leaders to help provide a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for students in grades K–5. Responsibilities include facilitating educational and recreational activities, assisting with homework, and serving as positive role models for children.

 

The Primetime After School Program serves nearly 80 families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. We are looking for enthusiastic and dependable individuals who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of children. Group Leaders work 1–4 days per week, from 2:20 PM to 5:45 PM. Employees are also required to attend paid staff meetings and training sessions.  Work-study students are preferred but not required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Degree or equivalent PLUS one to three years of demonstrated experience leading, guiding, and planning children’s educational and recreational activities; OR any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must have First Aid and CPR certifications or the ability to acquire certifications within three months of hire.
  • Must be able to successfully pass CORI and SORI screens and SAFIS fingerprinting.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Safety, and other trainings as required by the local town or state.
