The Valley Alliance for Land Equity (VALE) is a collaboration of existing and emerging community land trusts, housing cooperatives, and similar organizations in the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts.  We seek to scale up community land trust capacity in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties for permanently affordable housing, affordable commercial and community spaces, and food production .

VALE is an emerging 501c3 nonprofit organization that began as a collaboration between Valley CLT, Franklin County CLT, Amherst CLT, Lower Valley CLT, Equity Trust, Wellspring Cooperative, Willow PREC, and Valley Housing Co-op, for the purpose of scaling up community land trust capacity here in our Valley for permanently affordable housing, affordable commercial and community spaces, and food production in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties.

Compensation: $34/hr, for 17 hrs/week for 12 months, starting July 1, 2025. Please note: This is currently a ½-time, 1-year grant-funded position, currently capped at $30,000. We intend to continue fundraising to grow this role into a permanent position.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overall coordination of the Collaborative:
    • Provide overall coordination, communication and administrative support for organizational processes, fostering collaboration and efficiency among two dozen volunteers to enrich their contributions.
  • Support Steering Committee, and other committees, as needed, for example:
    • Convene and schedule meetings, setting up calendar invitations with communication link (Zoom, G Suite, etc) and Running Notes link.
    • Agenda Development: Agenda creation with input from others in the group.
    • Let invitees know if they are expected to read materials or otherwise prepare in advance for the meeting.
    • Send out timely reminders to ensure attendance and preparedness.
    • Keep track of the progress of all various circles within the organization and actively participate in circles as needed.
  • Fundraising:
    • Grant research for available opportunities.
    • Grant writing in coordination with volunteers.
    • Grant reporting in coordination with the Finance Committee.
  • Outreach & Communications:
    • Monitor organizational email and phone, provide timely responses to inquiries.
    • Support development of shared equity educational material for varied audiences.
    • Draft press releases, as needed.
    • First draft of communications to full membership.
    • Draft website updates, in coordination with volunteers, who will implement.
  • Document Management:
    • Ensure committee minutes and organizational documents are organized and accessible.
  • Event Logistics:
    • Staff any event circles, handling event logistics such as venue coordination, contracts, and ensuring a smooth execution.
    • Support other outreach events, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in administrative or coordination roles.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication skills for effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with virtual communication platforms Google Docs, and calendar management tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Highly dependable with excellent follow-through.
  • Prefer familiarity with affordable shared equity housing.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish would be valued. 

This is a locally-based remote position, and there is an expectation of being able to be in-person for trainings, events, etc. The intention is to hire someone residing in Hampden, Hampshire, or Franklin County.
