Red Pine Learning Community (RPLC) seeks a Group Leader/Site Coordinator for a group of up to 10 students in our outdoors-first education program.

RPLC is a secular program in South Hadley, MA, that supports lower elementary students in homeschool and virtual school through supplemental out-of-school time enrichment. RPLC students are between the ages of 4.5 and 9 years. RPLC takes layered public health protections to support vulnerable members of our community. Duties

  • Teaching: Select, develop, and deliver enrichment activities to encourage ecological awareness, social emotional learning, and body awareness/movement for 4.5-8.5 year olds; Incorporate the natural world and weather conditions into planning; Review materials for anti-racist, anti-ableist, and inclusive content; Maintain data and observations of student learning and growth.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate with families clearly and regularly; Support an inclusive admissions process and the development of scholarship programs.
  • School Operations: Contribute to creating the school calendar and schedule; Assess environmental conditions to make appropriate daily and weekly classroom plans; Engage with students and parents on principles of community care; Lead ongoing evaluation of the program for improvement and sustainability.

Experience: Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • 9 months supervised work experience in a childcare setting for school-age children

Experience: Preferred

  • Experience leading outdoor education for children aged 4.5-9 years
  • 1 year experience as a group leader, lead teacher, or site coordinator
  • Course work towards a Master’s in Education or a related field
  • Nature-based education certification or forest school certification

Physical Requirements

A typical day involves moving around outdoors, leading children on trails up to 2 miles per day, and lifting materials up to 30 pounds. The role requires the ability to support the Red Pine Learning Community health policy, and the ability to interact with and supervise students safely.
