Assess and evaluate students’ medical history, including social, behavioral, psychological and familial concerns. Utilizing evidenced based practice, identify need for appropriate nursing services in the school setting Initiate a plan of care with student and family input to best meet needs of individual student. Implement plan of care with consultation with school staff and community providers as necessary. Evaluate effectiveness of interventions and revise plan as necessary. Provides emergency care for all students and staff on school premises in the event of injury or sudden illness. Administer prescribed and approved medication to students with parent/guardian and physician consent. Perform mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, and height and weight as deemed appropriate by state and city departments of public health Documents pertinent information in student records in accordance with Standards of Practice and safeguards documentation utilizing HIPPA and FERPA regulations Conducts home visits to initiate or follow up on the health care needs of students Prepare regular written reports for supervisor, MDPH and other relevant agencies. Notify appropriate individuals, ie parents, staff, physicians of immediate and potential health related concerns. Provides information about health and disease prevention in cooperation with health education programs within Springfield Public Schools Promotes healthy programs in collaboration with coalitions, associations, CDC and Department of Public Health Acts as a resource in health education to students and families and refers to appropriate help agencies when necessary Report to work as scheduled and conducts self in professional manner. Is a role model for other nurses and for students in SPS Maintains confidentiality of medical and educational related concerns in the school setting Collaborates with student 's school nurse, teacher and therapists to help provide the optimal educational experience for the student Demonstrates a professional behavior when interacting with school staff, parents and students Self-directed and works within the scope of the job description Takes directives and follows through with a high level of student care Demonstrates effective communicate with the student, supervising nurse, classroom coworkers. and others. Seeks assistance/guidance/information as needed Safely manage and operate equi Clean and maintain the equipment Follows established school department policies and procedures with regard to: attendance, work hours, safety Maintains professional dress and appearance including wearing of school issued I D and name tags Maintains professional, courteous, helpful attitude Maintains current CPR/First Aid and CNA certifications Assists with her/his 1:1 assigned students participation in the swim program including entering the pool when necessary with the student Assess and evaluates students health pertinent family history and home factors, counsel students, parents and school personnel about health problems and issues. Maintain a health records, conduct, require research and evaluate school health programs. Notify appropriate individuals of immediate and potential health related problems. Collaborate with staff in school and health centers. Sport Physical clearance coverage as needed. Requirements: | |
RN's: 1. Must have a current valid, license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts. 2. Have three years of responsible professional experience in school nursing or a related field preferred. 3. Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation 4. Must be DOE certified or certifiable by the Department of Education in educator category, Nurse, All Levels. (DOE certification eligibility currently requires a minimum of a BSN. CNA's: 1. High School Diploma or Equivalent 2. CNA Certification 3. Documentation of job specific training/competency 4. Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR/First Aid) or successful completion within 6 months or hire date. LPS's: 1. A valid and current Licensed Practical Nurse License by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 2. CPR and First Aid Certification by a recognized provider, renewable biannually. 3. A minimum of one to two years of child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing experience.
