Description:
The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst is seeking an outgoing individual to create a positive experience for Museum guests working part-time (about one day a week) at admissions in guest services and part-time (about two days a week) as bookseller in the bookshop.

Booksellers support the Museum’s mission of inspiring a love of art and reading through picture books by connecting patrons young and old with books, art supplies and toys from our world-renowned curated collection. Booksellers assist customers in person and over the phone, answering questions and processing sales transactions at the cash register. In addition, booksellers shelve, arrange, clean and organize product within the store and back inventory, support marketing initiatives, shop promotions, preorders, book signings, and special events.

Guest Services Staff work at admissions, within the galleries and the Reading Library. Duties include sale of daily Museum admission, advance program tickets, and memberships; gallery security; maintenance of the Reading Library by shelving books and leading storytime, operation of AV equipment for film screenings or events, or assisting education staff with library projects.

The ideal candidate for this position will be committed to engaging with patrons and providing outstanding customer service which includes sharing their knowledge of picture books, responding to patron concerns and questions, resolving general complaints from guests and members on site, and efficient, accurate cashiering. In order to provide excellent service, Staff will stay abreast of current and upcoming exhibitions, films, educational programs, and marketing campaigns.
This position is approx. 20 hours per week, must be available weekends, additional hours may be available in the future. We are accepting applications for both summer temporary and regular positions. Starting pay is $15.45/hour. Requirements:
Reporting to the guest services manager & retail manager the position requires a team-oriented person who has a high school diploma and previous experience working with the public, an interest in Museum work is preferred. Successful candidates should possess cultural competency to collaborate and coordinate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, strong customer service and communication skills. Candidates must be able to lift boxes of up to 25 lbs.
