Town of Amherst - Recreation Department
Summer Camp Assistant Director / 4 positions

Position supports the professional and administrative work in the coordination, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the Recreation Department’s “Fun in the Sun Summer Day Camp” (REC). The position requires hands-on work and irregular hours. 37.5 hours per week Monday- Friday. Some weekend availability required.

Position will start part-time, up to 19 hours per week and will start full-time, 37.5 hours per week starting June 24th.  Monday- Friday. Some weekend availability required. 

• Assists in the administration and supervision of the summer camps in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Assists the Director with staff and program development as well as camp communications with parents/ guardians
• Serves as the communication liaison between Camp Counselors, Camp Coordinator, Parents and Facilities
• Assists with recruiting, hiring, and training of summer camp staff.
• Prepares weekly staff schedules; collect and applies staff availability data during summer session. Monitors staff attendance logs and evaluates performance in accordance with state policies.
• Observes and helps manage volunteer teams for July 4th event for the Recreation Department.
• Completes accident reports and incident reports and submits to Camp Coordinator and/or Outreach Director by required deadlines
• Assists Camp Coordinator in pre-camp organization, i.e., material and supply ordering, organizing group rosters, ePACT information, parent communications etc.
• Delegates program planning tasks to camp counselors.
• Assists with organizing field trips. Performs administrative tasks for event planning including locating and inviting guest speakers and performers; gathering data on facilities, costs, and transportation and obtaining permission slips.
• Prepares and maintains contact lists and contacts substitutes. Acts as substitute counselor in camp programs where needed.
• Participates in and assists with facilitation of leadership team meetings, conferences, in-service training programs, and staff meetings.
• Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
